Are there any requirements for the course ?

Anyone can start a Callan course, even if you have no experience of English, and if you already have experience of English, our courses can still help to improve your vocabulary and perfect your speaking and pronunciation !

Do I have to pay anything before my course starts ?

No, if you come and register at the school, you can have a free trial lesson before you have to pay anything.

How do I find Englishouse ?

The school is easily accesible by various methods of public transport. Englishouse is 30 seconds' walk from Putney Bridge Underground station. The area of the tube station is also a terminus (and start point) for 6 bus routes and many others pass over nearby Putney Bridge itself. Our contact page has exact details of our address and a map. Or use our guide from Putney Bridge tube station - here. Bus - Routes terminating at Putney Bridge station: 39, 85, 93, 265, 270, 414. Routes passing over Putney Bridge: 14, 22, 74, 220, 424, 485, N10, N74 Underground - Putney Bridge underground (tube) station is on the District Line (green). Take any southbound train which has 'Wimbledon' as its destion. When exiting the station, turn left walk 30 feet and then turn left again under the bridge into Ranelagh Gardens. Hurlingham Studios is the first building on the left. You will see signs directing you to the school in the area of the station. It is situated on Putney High Street and is 10 minutes walk or a very short bus ride from the school. To get to the school, turn right upon leaving the station and walk down the High Street. Cross Putney Bridge, which is at the end of the High Street, and follow the signs that lead you to the Underground station. When you are there, Englishouse signs will direct you to the school. How long is the course ?

However long you like! You can study for just a week and still improve your speaking and pronunciation skills, or you can study for a few months to take your English to a higher level.

How many different levels of study do you have ?

The Callan method is made up of 12 stages, from beginner to advanced. We have classes for students who have never spoken English in their life, and higher classes where you can learn and use advanced English vocabulary.

I want to speak English as soon as possible, how long
does it take ?

Many students come to Englishouse because they know that the Callan Method is good for people who speak very little or no English. Exactly how much time you will spend learning with us before you become a fluent English speaker depends on many things. Here is a short list of things that can help you to become fluent in a shorter time - Attending all your classes (at Englishouse of course), Practise outside the classroom as much as possible, If you live with people who speak the same language as you, try to get everyone to practise English together; this will be good for them and for you. If it is possible, living with an English family is even better, If you work, practise English with your colleagues, At home, put stickers on household items showing their names and other words connected with them e.g. television (n) + to watch (v) or oven (n) + to cook (v). Practise saying and writing these words to remember them well. Watching television or listening to the radio to practise your listening. For example - children's programs (good for beginners), News programs, documentaries, BBC Radio 3 + 4. Remember to repeat what you hear. Reading children's books (good for beginners), newspapers or English learners' readers. If you can, record your own voice and compare it with the teacer's voice, or that of another native English speaker.

What should I do if I do not like my class ?

Our teachers do their best to place you in a class that is suitable with regards to your experience with English, this is done based on the placement test you took at the beginning of the course. If you wish to change class, teachers will watch your progress in the class and reach an opinion about your level. If they agree you should be moved up (or down), you will be told ? the teachers? job is to help your English to progress.

When can I start my course ?

We have courses for many different levels starting all year round. After a short level test it is even possible to register and start your course on the same day !
